Dear Reader,

The ASIAN STUDIES WWW MONITOR
(including all its subsidiary (and/or sister) pages on "coombs.anu.edu.au" server) has permanently ceased its publishing operations on Friday 21st January 2011.

All of the online resources reported here have been thoroughly checked at the time of their listing. However, it is possible that, with the with the passage of time, many of the originally reported materials might have been removed from the Internet, or changed their online address, or varied the scope and quality of their contents.

Fortunately, in several cases it is possible to access many of the older versions of the resources listed in the MONITOR. This can be easily done via the free services of the "The Internet Archive" http://web.archive.org/, a remarkable brainchild of Brewster Kahle, San Francisco, CA.

- with warm regards -

Editor, Dr T. Matthew Ciolek.

National Archives of Singapore, Singapore

Self-description: "The National Archives of Singapore (NAS) is the official custodian of the Singapore government's corporate memory. To fill gaps in the nation's history, NAS also acquires records from private sources. The rich holdings of archives form an important part of Singapore's heritage for enjoyment by the present and future generations of Singaporeans through exhibitions, outreach and publication programmes.

Established by an act of parliament in 1968, NAS was first known as the National Archives and Records Centre. It has since undergone many name changes and transformation to evolve into the National Archives of Singapore in 1993. [...] As of 2006, NAS holds more than 10,855 linear metres of paper files and records, 280,000 microfilm reels, 3.88 million images, 15,376 hours of oral history recordings and 76,620 hours of audio-visual records in our repositories."
